"I have the most beautiful love story to tell you. In March of 2010, I met a tiny beagle named Lexie who we adopted, and she changed my life and the lives of countless pets in need forever. Lexie was wild, loving, sweet, and funny. At the time, I was struggling with severe anxiety and panic disorder. Lexie literally saved my life and, in her way, changed the world.

After falling madly in love with her, my then-boyfriend (now husband) and I decided to foster dogs. Our love for Lexie showed us how important it was to rescue more animals like her. We lived in a one-bedroom apartment with limited funds, but we had all the love in the world. Since that beautiful day we brought Lexie home, we’ve fostered over 80 dogs in need. Without a yard, Lexie loved going to Burke Playground, where she could sniff the grass, run around, and meet new people and dogs. One night, I thought, 'Why not have a fundraiser here?' That’s how Mums and Mutts was born. For 13 years, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for pets in rescues and shelters, with Street Tails Animal Rescue being a main beneficiary. We’ve witnessed hundreds of adoptions and beautiful love stories just like ours. Lexie truly made a difference.

Lexie pushed me to get stronger and helped me through countless panic attacks. She inspired me to be the best version of myself. Eventually, we got her a house in New Jersey with a yard, which she loved! She sunbathed on the deck, swam (sometimes reluctantly) in the pool, and rolled around in the yard. Years later, after countless beach vacations, we were blessed to get our tiny camper at the shore. Lexie adored her 'beagle beach house.' We took beach walks, golf cart rides, and made the best memories. Lexie grew up with Jason and me. She was there through our engagement, our marriage, and all the highs and lows. She was strong-willed, hard-headed, and perfect in every way.

I’ll never be the same without Lexie. The world is a better place because she existed. She was my soulmate, my heart dog, my everything, my best friend. Cancer took her from us, but she lives in our hearts forever. While our hearts are beyond broken, I feel so proud to be Lexie’s mommy. She was brave, even at the end. Mommy and Daddy love you, and you will live in our hearts forever. My sweet baby girl, you are my hero, the love of my life, forever.
