Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) has been a foster-based rescue for nearly 10 years, initially operating out of The Chic Petique and run by owner/founder Lindsay Condefer. STAR has been pulling dogs out of the city shelters for a decade, many of whom were/are in need of medical attention that they could not get at the crowded city shelter.
STAR's mission is to help the homeless, and unwanted animals within the local, Philadelphia area by helping them receive proper medical attention, educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering, and by placing these animals in suitable, compatible, and most of all, loving homes.
STAR prides itself on taking in homeless animals that are often "overlooked." These are the animals that usually need extensive medical attention, so they are thought of as "unadoptable" or "not worth the effort." To us, rescue is about saving a life, and these are the animals that need it most. Along with the extra time and care these animals require, comes a large amount of medical bills. Click here to make a tax-deductable donation - every little bit helps :)
Please note: STAR is not a shelter, no animals are pulled from shelters outside of the Philadelphia area, nor does STAR support breeders. Also, we depend on helping hands to assist us in every day activities, chores, events, and to serve as fosters for our rescues. If you are interested in lending a helping hand or three, please email us and tell us you'd like to help :)
STAR has been incorporated and is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization.

Fill out an Adoption Application
and email it to us, or print it out and mail it, or better yet, drop off the application in person:
Street Tails Animal Rescue
1030 N. 2nd St. #401
Philadelphia, PA 19123
We ask that the questions be filled out thoroughly and honestly. Street Tails requires a vet check (if possible), details on where the animal will be living, and also a visit, on site. We also need to know if the animal will be placed along with other pets.
Adoption fees are tax-deductable and vary by type of pet, and their medical history. Fees cover all of the pet's medical, boarding, and food costs while they live with us. All pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, are up to date on all shots, heartworm/lyme/erlichia tested, and microchipped.
Once your application is approved, we will put you in contact with the foster parent(s) to set up a meeting time.
When you foster, you agree to take one of STAR's animals into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time or until the dog is adopted.
Fostering a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re freeing up a spot so STAR can take in another pet. You're also giving your foster pet the time he/she needs to be ready for adoption and helping STAR learn more about the pet so he/she can end up in the best home possible. Additionally, you're ocializing the pet to a home environment and possibly getting him/her used to being around other pets and different types of people.
If you are interested in fostering one of STAR's dogs or cats, please contact us.
We rely heavily on contributions to not only keep caring for these animals, but to get them the appropriate veterinary attention they need. Take a look at the current animals up for adoption, and donate as generously as you can to help us help them. We are a small, independent animal rescue with no corporate affiliates, so every dollar counts! We are in this because our hearts are in it.
You may choose to sponsor one pet, several pets or, if you just can't decide which foster pet to sponsor, you may make a gift to STAR without specifying a particular dog. And remember, all donations are tax-deductable. In the unlikely event that a pet's donations exceed the cost of care, your gift will be used to help another needy foster pet. Each gift you give is greatly appreciated and responsibly spent in caring for and preparing these animals for their new homes.
